5 Natural Skin Care Products That Are Great for Your Skin

natural skin care productsIt probably is not news to you to know that your skin is the largest organ of your body. And if you are joining the numbers of people who are becoming more health conscious in many areas of their lives, you care about what you put on your skin.

Many are turning to products that are known for being organic, paraben-free, botanical, and all-natural. While all-natural products are not always the best solution for certain types of skin conditions, many natural skin care products can be beneficial for your skin. Here are just a few that you could incorporate into your daily routine.

Coconut Oil

It probably is no surprise that this made it onto our list! Coconut oil is filled with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and is used to treat a number of different conditions.

One incredibly effective use for coconut oil is hydrating your dry skin. It can be an excellent treatment for eczema patients as well as it works to decrease staphylococcal colonization. It is also a great, gentle moisturizer to use on the areas around your eyes to help reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Additionally, coconut oil is used to remove makeup, treat scars, and even prevent razor burns.

Topical Arnica

This is a herbaceous plant from the sunflower family and can be used to treat skin that bruises easily. One of the products we recommend that contains Topical Arnica is DerMend cream, an over-the-counter product you can find at CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart. Topical Arnica has also been known to improve the appearance of skin discoloration, including dark circles under your eyes.

Topical Arnica oils have been used to reduce pain and inflammation as well as relieve stiffness and even arthritis flare-ups.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is an excellent moisturizer, especially beneficial for dry and sensitive skin when applied in it’s raw, pure, and unrefined form. Loaded with vitamin E, necessary fatty acids, and plant antioxidants, shea butter is known to help restore elasticity in the skin and helps to lock in moisture. It can also be used as a lip balm to soothe dry, chapped lips.

Raw Honey

While just any honey from the store won’t carry the same nutrients, a natural, raw honey that has not been heated, processed, or pasteurized is filled with nutrients, vitamins, and enzymes.

Raw honey can be used to help reduce acne breakouts and is also a great moisturizer (don’t worry, you do wash it off!). Other uses include treating scars, healing wounds, and fighting allergies.

Polypodium Leucotomos Extract

This extract comes from a fern grown in the rainforests of Central and South America. Its antioxidants help to protect against the effects of free radicals. According to one study, supplementing orally with Polypodium Leucotomos helped to reduce sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation. You can find it in a supplement called Heliocareรข at Walgreens and Walmart. It should not be used as a substitute for sunscreen but can help reduce the risk of sunburns.

Talk to Your Dermatologist

Obviously, this is not a complete list of skin care natural products you can use to help keep your skin healthy. However, before trying just any ‘all-natural’ product recommendation you find on your internet search, make sure you always consult with your dermatologists to find out the best treatment options for your specific skin type and conditions.
